WebActually I don't think steam matters cause I bought a couple games off steam (Killing Floor and Terraria) and played them off of my usb on another computer (work computer) that didn't have steam. I think it just bypasses all the steam features. If you just copy the game from the steam directory onto you usb then you should be fine. WebJan 8, 2024 · Yes and no. I use external hard drives all the time. Generally speaking you don't HAVE to leave them plugged in but it's easier if you do. For example, if you unplug the drive with steam running, it will likely get a bit confused temportarily as it will no longer see those games as installed (obviously).
